probably something better suited to reddit but i dont and am not interested in making an account there. anyway,,,
anyone know the origins/history of the circle e Ⓔ that is used in anarchst/punk symbolism? pretty sure ive heard that it stands for both egalitarianism and for environment/ecoanarchism. im guessing it's kinda just ppl looking at it, knowing the context and pulling that out their ass. not to suggest that's wrong, i just want something a bit more concrete, ya know?
also, while we're at it, what about the use of // ? the like, stereotypical usage seems to be Ⓐ//Ⓔ. furthest back i seen // is '94 on dystopia's human=garbage. in the lyric sheet for hands that mold, and on the cd version the song lovehate is rendered love//hate. of course there is the band a//political, but far as i can tell they came a few years later. maybe they popularized it? tho that's a stretch to say, anarchopunk shit isn't exactly that big, and even among us it's not the most widely used thing.

DIRT - The Crass Years
This is a compilation of the band DIRT’s songs while they were signed onto Crass’s old record label! DIRT were a band that often performed and worked with the band Crass at the height of the Anarcho-Punk movement, and boy howdy can you hear those Crass and anarcho influences on this record. This thing is seething mad, bouncy, melodic, anthemic, and above all else FAST! I love both the vocalist but especially the woman. She has this insane intensity and gravity to her voice while also having that classic early punk voice crack move in her repertoire. Definitely a band I’m surprised hasn’t made it big with future generations in the same way that discharge, Crass, and the subhumans have! Because oh my God is this shit so incredibly good.

Ambush - Violeure
This is a forever favourite song. I still cry openly when it comes on. I cut my teeth in community radio with a friend who shared this as an all-timer. I feel like i've written about this before, because our mutual appreciation for this song was strong, and when he took his own life, i had to stop listening for awhile. Listening today and i still think it's one of the best punk songs in existence. RIP Matt. You were loved.
